Shade Grown: "Coffee grown under the rain forest canopy provides superior quality coffee and gives shelter to flora and fauna....The traditional practice of growing coffee in the shade limits the yield, but does not disrupt the ecology of the area."

Fair Trade Certified:  Be aware of what you buy..take part in a social and economic movement...Be sure that the farmer receives a fair price for their coffee. Kicking Horse Coffees are purchased through small co-operatives who work and negotiate in the best interest of the farmer, to help ensure a higher quality of life.

Organic:  "Certified by the Canadian Organic Certification Co-operative...no pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers which are harmful to both the producer and the environment".

Herbal Republic was established in the  Vancouver when a group of tea-loving friends gathered  to share their fine, rare teas in the home of a tea master; between conversations and tea, the idea of bringing together the group's  tea expertise with a dinstinctive line of fine quality teas blossomed.

After almost a year of research, tea garden visits and numerous tea tasting sessions, Herbal Republic finally opened its doors in January of 1999. 

HERBAL REPUBLIC quality is assured by having all non-organic teas checked for residue of pesticides and herbicides by independent laboratories under strict EU standards and are all certified organic. Others like the Formosa and Japanese teas, are flown in directly from tea gardens that do not employ the use of chemicals. These small and unique tea gardens have limited yearly harvest and the cost of obtaining formal organic certification are just too costly. However, HERBAL REBUBLIC works closely with them and conducts yearly or bi-yearly tea garden visits to monitor their consistency and quality.

HERBAL REPUBLIC carries only the best harvest of the year (which is usually the spring harvest) by pre-booking a designated quantity with tea farmers who store them  in  temperature controlled "tea cellars". Small batches are flown in when needed so each cup will be consistently fresh and flavourful throughout the year.
